Meet the Founder: Clive’s Story
At the heart of Moto Cycle is Clive—a lifelong rider who started racing motocross at just 10 years old. By 14, he was a British Champion, and by 1977, he was competing internationally. After a successful engineering career, Clive opened his first shop in 2000 under the name Seal Moto, focused solely on motocross.

In 2018, the shop evolved into Moto Cycle, expanding into mountain biking to reflect the crossover in training and passion among riders.

Today, Clive continues to support elite riders in the British and World Championships, while helping everyday cyclists and racers get the most from their ride.
Clive’s Journey from Racer to Retailer
At Moto Cycle, our story is rooted in passion, performance, and progression. It all began with Clive, who first hit the motocross track at just 10 years old. By 14, he had already become a British Champion, launching a racing career that would take him across national and international circuits from 1975 onward.

After hanging up his racing boots, Clive pursued a career in engineering—but the call of two wheels never left him. In 2000, he opened a specialist motocross shop under the name Seal Moto, serving riders with the same dedication he brought to the track. As the sport evolved, so did the business. Recognising that many motocross athletes train on mountain bikes, Clive expanded the shop’s focus. In 2018, Seal Moto became Moto Cycle, embracing the world of mountain biking while continuing to support motocross at every level.
Clive’s influence extends far beyond the shop floor. He has mentored and supported riders competing in the British and World Championships, including: George Clarke – British Championship & Arena Cross, Brad Todd – British Championships & International Races, Adam Collins – MX2 British Championship & World Championship point scorer, Jason Meara – British International & MX of Nations for Ireland, Jack Meara – British MX2 British Championship.
Clive’s legacy is built on a lifelong love of riding and a commitment to helping others ride better, faster, and further.
